Professional / Academic History Huixian joined Braddell Brothers as an Associate in 2009 after completing her pupillage and starting her legal career at a prominent medium-sized Singapore law practice. While an undergraduate at the National University of Singapore Law Faculty, Huixian was on the Dean's List in her second year, and the Overall Dean's List in her final year. Huixian is effectively bilingual in both English and Chinese, further honed by her having spent a semester reading law at Peking University in the People's Republic of China. Areas of Practice Huixian's practice covers a wide spectrum of general, civil and commercial litigation and arbitration matters. These include contractual disputes, company and shareholder disputes, litigation involving breaches of directors' duties, employment, tort and medical negligence. Professional Highlights Most recently, Huixian was part of the team of lawyers acting for the former general manager of a construction company accused of having converted various personal bearer cheques issued by the company's managing director. The team filed a successful application before the Singapore High Court to strike out parts of the company's claim on the basis that they were time-barred. In ruling in our client's favour, the Singapore High Court made a landmark decision that the 6-year limitation period in respect of conversion would apply equally to a restitutionary claim for "monies had and received" based upon conversion. Huixian is presently engaged in the representation of a company against its former director for various breaches of fiduciary duties.
